Since seeing Liz Welch's cool sample of free-motion stitching on metal, I wanted to try the technique myself. I tried to think of a way to use it with my frame designs (I use a 7570) -- maybe as an applique. The design I chose was not an applique design, so I simply stitched the design on top of the metal, and then did free-motion stitching around the edges of the metal to create a starburst effect. I think this technique is very fun and a great way to recycle all those Mountain Dew cans I have to lug to the recycler . Now, admittedly, I did use the foot pedal so as to stitch very slowly while doing the frame design. I had only a couple of thread breaks which I thought amazing, since I was stitching on metal, and using 20 wt. wrapped verigated metallic thread. I just used 40 wt. rayon thread for the free-motion part around the edges. Thanks Jean Mobbs Webb for the technique and Liz for the great explanation and way cool picture! Kae Barron
